Rug by GUR
show
Célia is the founder of GUR and comes from Viana do Castelo, a small town in the north of Portugal that is rich in traditional crafts.
She always remembers having hand-woven rugs in her home and in the homes of her friends and family. They are very typical of Portugal and have always been more or less the same; beautiful in their own way, but very simple, using randomly chosen recycled materials from textile factories.
After working for a few years in an artist's printmaking studio in Porto, Célia was invited to take part in an exhibition in her home town that aimed to bridge the gap between traditional craftspeople and young designers. It was here that she worked with weaver Cláudia Vilas Boas on a design for the handloom and they made the first GUR. Célia was so pleased with the result and found it so exciting that she wanted to share the experience. She asked some of her illustrator friends to make one too, and GUR was born.
The essence of GUR is to make these typical Portuguese carpets more fun. We use the same techniques with carefully selected materials. The rugs are very authentic to what they have always been, but now there is a design factor, working with artists and illustrators and translating their ideas into rugs.

It was only the beginning of a trek that has always been dedicated to the evolution of quality and innovation. This is how Chicoração is able to ensure the excellence of its products to this day.
It all starts in the herd. In spring, the annual shearing of the sheep takes place, during which each animal "takes off" its wool fleece. This is the precious raw material for Chicoração's products.
It is necessary to sort the fibres of the wool fleece and remove straw and dirt. This process is done manually by experienced hands.
